Linda L’Esperance & Eli Chaimowicz
A mother and son’s journey into Chinese medicine

Linda L’Esperance and her son, Eli Chaimowicz, founded Lotus Center of Oriental Medicine in Boca Raton in 2000. Their shared commitment to caring for others grew from different personal experiences and a decision to study Chinese medicine together.

Linda’s story, in her own words

My life has been a journey of connection, healing, and discovery, shaped by my early experiences as the daughter of a Canadian army officer. Constantly on the move during my formative years, I learned to build communities, forge deep connections, and adapt to changing environments. This upbringing nurtured my empathy and understanding of the challenges young people and their families face.

Growing up across Canada and Europe, I was immersed in diverse cultures that expanded my perspective on the world. I pursued my education at Concordia University in Montreal, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology in 1969.

In 1971, my husband and I embarked on a year-long journey through Europe and Asia. I had the privilege of chanting with monks at the Dalai Lama’s monastery in Dharamsala and studying Tibetan culture and medicine in Nepal. These experiences deepened my interest in holistic wellness.

Returning home, I took another transformative step—purchasing a 200-acre farm and practicing organic farming at a time when it was less widely recognized. I also began studying midwifery under the guidance of a local doctor, apprenticing with him for several years. Assisting in childbirth gave me a profound appreciation for life’s beauty and fragility. When I became a mother of three, all born at home, my commitment to nurturing and protecting life only strengthened.

A shared path into Chinese medicine

My eldest son’s diagnosis with juvenile diabetes deepened my desire to understand health and illness. At a health expo in Miami, Eli and I met the director of the Traditional School of Chinese Healthcare, who invited us to visit.

On the drive home, I asked Eli, “Would it embarrass you to go to school with your mom?” His answer was simple: “No.” We began our studies together. I earned my Master’s in Chinese Medicine in 1998, and our journey led us to establish Lotus Center in 2000.

The values behind my work

As an acupuncture practitioner and herbalist, I have continued to explore traditional approaches to care, including harmonic and vibrational practices such as Acutonics. Throughout my career, young women and children have held a special place in my heart. I want people to feel listened to and supported as they move through life’s transitions.

My greatest fulfillment comes from helping people develop confidence, resilience, and a connection to their own potential. Compassion, curiosity, and respect for each person’s experience remain central to my work.

Eli’s path to Chinese medicine began with a personal connection to health. Raised on an organic farm, he grew up with an appreciation for natural health. At 15, he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Living with a chronic condition inspired him to turn his interest in health into his profession.

His background includes acupuncture, massage therapy, Qi Gong, and herbalism. He brought together an interest in traditional Eastern medicine and the perspective he gained from managing his own health needs. That experience shaped his belief in understanding each person’s circumstances and tailoring care to the individual.

Studying alongside his mother, Eli developed an interest in connecting traditional Chinese diagnostics with contemporary medical perspectives. Together, they built Lotus Center around a shared commitment to listening, education, and personalized care.
